And Away We Go!

First! Blog! EVER! This is part of my master's degree program for UMUC, EDTC 625 specifically. The degree is in education technology, and even though I teach band and orchestra I believe I can find many uses for tech in my own teaching. Already I have experimented with a class website for posting information for the coming week, and I am looking forward to experimenting with blogs this semester.

    James, welcome to blogsville! I would think a musician could link to youtube posted versions of music and performance to help students share your vision with a particular piece. Just a thought. Ray

    I'm thinking about it... I know of several instructional videos I use that are on youtube, as well as other sites I have links to on my webpage, but do I want to throw all of that into here too? Just gettin started. I'm having a problem finding the "follow" link on your blog so I can add it, does one exist or is it under a different heading?

      Alonda joined, I would think it is there. On the right side of my blog (rnekrasz.blogspot.com) do you see the blue Google Join this site banner? It's small but there.

    Welcome! Back in my undergraduate studies at Tulane University I was first exposed to "Twitter" in my PR class....and this was waaaay before it was the new thing. Back then my teacher labeled it as "blogging". So aside from Twitter, this is my first blogging exposure as well.


    YouTube is an awesome avenue for your band students. With YouTube you can compare and contrast modern day jazz or other genres to the earlier renditions or view old footage of influential musicians....Good luck!

    So many blogs out there...I only follow one on a regular basis. Otherwise, I just hit up a blog when I need recipe advice or something like that. Blogger is blocked at my school, does yours allow it?

    Blogger works at my school, fortunately. We have a filter that blocks a lot of things, like youtube, but the techies downtown have put in an override for those of us who use clips from youtube on a regular basis. Otherwise I would be downloading the clips and saving them as a different file type in order to show them to my class... it's the comments at the bottom of the clips that are the issue with youtube, NOT the actual content of the clip. Frustrating that so many people can be morons and ruin a great thing with asinine comments! Actually, that is a whole other blog thread... to be continued.
